Lucas, aka “Camilito” (Sept. 2)
Given that part of his name recalls two Latin American revolutionaries, and given that Krista and Burke met in El Salvador and have spent much time there over the past decade, it seemed fitting to make Lucas Camilo’s blog partly bilinguel. So yesterday’s post is a summary in Spanish, and we hope to continue posting occasionally en español (plus, we encourage comments/poems/revolutionary dichos in Spanish).
Lucas had a good day yesterday, including a nourishing evening bath… more updates to come this afternoon.

Hi, Lucas,
I am the lucky lady who visited you today and saw for myself what a tough guy you are! Your parents were there to tell of your progress. We caught you making sucking movements with your mouth – looked like you were ready for lunch. I hear there is a freezer full of Mom’s milk waiting for you so keep improving! Sending much love, Nina

Dear Lucas,
We’re so happy that we’ll be seeing you soon. All I want for my 63rd birthday is to see how much you’ve improved since we were there and to hold you.
Today I picked warm blueberries and blackberries—yummm! Then I picked apples for a crisp and had to put a new net on my raspberries, since they’re having a second crop. I’m going to beat the deer this time. I am always envisioning you next summer playing with your cousins, stuffing fresh berries into your mouth and just enjoying each breath.
Hugs and kisses, Nonna

It is a great pairing, how did you come to pick Lucas (since we know about Camilo)? Marti’s brother is named Camilo, and it has served him well. Of course his parents disagree on which Camilo he was named after (apparently there were more than the 2 famous Camilo’s, so it complicates the “naming after”). My parents had picked out the name Coco, as in Coco Chanel, up until just before I was born, when they came across Meredith and knew that was the name. Can you imagine if I had been named Coco? Anyhow, we will toast Lucas Camilo’s progress tonight. Adelante!
